Paralysis in spiritual matters is something that inflicts all those who live in sin and are not in right standing with God. Sin is more than a clichéd religious term; it is very real. It brings guilt into our lives and makes us aware that despite all we have, that something significant is missing. It robs us of happiness and keeps us perpetually hungry and thirsty. It provides a mirage in the spiritual desert that we constantly chase but never reach. Jesus knows this and came to offer life and life in abundance. Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He really was. They told him what other people thought about His identity but He asked them personally about what they believed about Him. This question is really profound in that we have all been exposed to Jesus teachings to some extent yet opinions about Jesus all differ. He does not want to know what your friends or colleagues think. He wants to know who you think He is. So, who do you think He is?

Do you know what sin is? Do you know that it brings with it very serious consequences? Phillip revisits this passage, famous amongst believers and non-believers alike. This is a tale of a young son who had everything but instead chose to take his inheritance from his father and to head out into the world alone, to find his own way. Unfortunately for the son, he ended up destitute and having to contend with pig food for sustenance. Sadly, this story describes tragedies that many families experience when their loved ones lose their way. In this case, however, the story ends well and nicely sums up the tremendous love that God has for us all, even if we originally wanted nothing to do with Him. When we read how Jesus viewed and treated this woman, we get an insight into how He would receive and behave toward each and every one of us. From these verses we know that that every person will one day stand alone in front of God to give account for his or her life. Here, we won’t have the sometimes faulty and questionable judgments we sometimes see in our courts but rather the perfect and infallible judgment of God. If we feel nervous standing before a human judge, how much more nervous would we be, knowing that we will eventually stand before God? George elaborates on this very important message.
