The Meaning of the Cross

To the world it means that the perfect plan of salvation has been provided…

“I declare to you the gospel… that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (I Cor 15:1-4).

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8)

To God it means that He is satisfied with the work of His Son…

“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit.” (I Peter 3:18)

To the believer it is the promise of everlasting…

Jesus promises, “Because I live, you will live also.” (John 14:19)

“He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has past from death into life.” (John 5:24)

To you it is a challenge to believe…

Jesus claims, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25)

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom 10:9)

You can know the true meaning of the cross in your life today by taking these steps…

Recognise that without Christ you are separated from God. In honest repentance admit your need to be saved; “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom 3:23)
Realise that God loves you, and believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins; “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Receive the risen Christ into your life by faith, and trust Him as your saviour; “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)
