The Persecuted Church

October 23, 2010
Reading: Revelations 2:8 -11
Duration: 47 minutes
Phillip reads and explains the message given by God to the church in the ancient city of Smyrna, also referred to as the poor little rich church. At the time, Smyrna was a large and prosperous city and was also known as the City of Temples because it entertained a large variety of pagan religions. Gods message to his little church, however, was one of encouragement and promise because it suffered tribulation and persecution at the hands of the people of that city. Today, those who hold true to Gods Word also face persecution but they are encouraged to endure. In so doing, they get to enjoy Gods comfort, reassurance and promise of eternal life.

Freedom from God

October 2, 2010
Reading: Exodus 21:1-7
Duration: 39 minutes
History has chronicled efforts by various people around the world fighting and dying for liberty, such is its value. In Australia, we have the liberty to make our own choices and to practice our own religion; a freedom not shared equally amongst all countries. Unfortunately, today this gift has been exploited to extremes as people exercise this liberty as being free of Gods laws. With the progress of time, Gods laws are becoming increasingly eroded by society. As a result, the pain and the repercussions are becoming evermore evident.

So Close and Yet So Far

September 4, 2010
Reading: 2 kings 5: 19-27
Duration: 45 minutes
This week, we hear the story of Gehazi. He was the servant of the prophet Elisha – a true man of God. As such, Gehazi had the privilege of witnessing the awesome power and presence of God. He was sheltered and blessed as a result of his position and had the opportunity to learn much from Elisha. Sadly, however, he wanted more and did not appreciate or understand what he already had. He was so close to God but not quite close enough. Unfortunately, the outcome for Gehazi was condemnation for life. The message here, is that if you are only somewhat near to God, then you are invited to come in all the way. It is the best place to be.

Who do you say that I am?

August 28, 2010
Reading: Mathew 16:13-28
Duration: 45 minutes
There is very little doubt amongst believers and non-believers alike, that Jesus Christ was one of the greatest influencers of western society, who ever lived. Today, if you ask people who He was, you will get an array of answers ranging from savior, to misguided, to teacher and to some, unfortunately, a contemptible person. As we approach the end of Christs ministry on earth and judgment soon thereafter, the question is posed to you. Who do you think that Jesus Christ is? The answer is critical. He came to die for our sins and to reconcile us with God. If your opinion is different, we invite and encourage you to reevaluate what you think and what you know.

Sin and Leprosy

August 21, 2010
Reading: 2 Kings 5:1-19
Duration: 45 minutes
Phillip reads a story about a commander in the army of the Syrian king, during ancient times. This commander was a powerful man and had everything but unfortunately, he also had the disease of leprosy. During those times, leprosy was very strictly managed in order to control its spread. Lepers were forced to live outside the city walls and had to be very careful not to hurt themselves. Their ability to feel pain was lost and they could thus inflict a lot of damage upon themselves. Here, the noteworthy point is that God treated leprosy and sin in much the same way. Why? - because they both corrupt and destroy. They both begin as small sores and then begin to spread throughout the body. If you ever wanted to know why God warned us so much about sin, this is a great message.

A Relationship with God

July 17, 2010
Reading: Psalm 18
Duration: 41 minutes
Today, John looks at a Bible passage that is full of rich messages. This is a psalm in which King David, of ancient times, gives God praise for the wonderful things He had done for him. David knew God and the passages we read in this psalm are a great illustration of the relationship he had with God as well as the importance he placed on it. From this message we also get to see how a relationship with God works. In many ways, it is similar to relationships between people. This is a great message for those wishing to get closer to God and also for those who do not know where they stand with God.
