| A lot of people have been following this series very avidly. A show, that centers on a group of people desperate to lose weight for various reasons. Some purely to feel better about themselves others for emotional reasons sparked by close family and friends; and although there was ultimately only one winner, at the end of the day they all won to a degree, because through perseverance they have all shed a substantial amount of unwanted kilos! Sin in our lives is just like that! Sin weighs us down, stops us from achieving our full potential, from being the person God created and intended us to be. We allow sin to creep into our lives, and slowly but surely it gets a foothold in our lives, and once it does, it anchors in for the long haul! I don’t think there are many people who want to create problems in their lives, whatever form that may take. A lot of the time we just want to enjoy the moment and never stop to think about what the cost will be; not only to ourselves, but to those around us! Similarly, not many people would admit to wanting sin in their lives, or the consequences that sin brings, yet we like to think we can enjoy life on our terms in our way. Like the parable of the foolish rich man in the book of Luke chapter 12…..who thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.' Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?' “...for the wages of sin is death.” Romans 6:23 The only way to dislodge and shed sin from our lives is by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal saviour, accepting that He sacrificed His life for me and you and paid the debt that was owed in full. “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23. There is nothing that we can do to remove sin from our lives. Jesus did all the work on our behalf: We didn’t do anything to deserve it, we didn’t earn it, and we didn’t pay for it! It was offered in GRACE. “…for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the grace of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 |
