Spring is in the air!
Spring is in the air!
The almond tree in my front garden blossomed a few weeks ago to herald the coming of Spring. The smell of Spring was everywhere. I’m woken in the morning by the chirping of birds. As I drove into the countryside to a sheep farm I was confronted by the joyous prancing of newborn lambs everywhere.
The anticipation of new life is everywhere – the garden is coming to life, the birds are nest building, and even the city of Melbourne seems to be coming to life after the hibernation of winter. It is amazing to see trees that seemed lifeless bud into flower and life.
It is this spiritual awakening that Christ brings into our existence that parallels the coming of spring. Christ who is Lord, the everlasting God, the Creator, makes us bloom like the almond tree in winter, yet predicting the imminent arrival of spring.
In this world where people feel increasingly insecure, displaced and isolated Christ cries out “I will bring health and healing to my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security”. Through Christ we come to life.
As the blooming of the almond tree herald’s spring, the coming of Christ has also heralded the perfect connection of man with God. C.S. Lewis, the author of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe talks about coming out of the shadows into the sunlight. That we are presently in the shadow land. Christ promises us eternal life with and through Him.
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles”
His coming again will transform us from the shadows into the light. With Christ, spring is truly in the air.
