See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; therefore choose life. (Deuteronomy 30:15, 19)

An old story relates how a professor was travelling to Dublin to take part in a congress. He was late. Worried that he might miss the opening address, he jumped into a horse-drawn cab and shouted to the driver, “Be quick! I’m in a hurry!” The coachman made the horses gallop along wildly.

Suddenly the professor realized that he hadn’t told the coachman his destination. He called out, “Do you know where Ι want to go?”

“How can I, if you don’t tell me? I’m just carrying out your orders to hurry up.” Who knows where he might have taken his passenger?

Do we know our destination at the end of life’s journey? Or are we just going along aimlessly? God’s Word, the Bible, leaves us in no doubt that there are only two possible destinations: heaven or hell, eternal bliss or everlasting torment. God informs us, as He once did the Israelites: “life and good, and death and evil.” We can choose: indeed, we must do so.

Whoever wants to get to heaven as his goal in order to enjoy life and good eternally, he must cοme to the Lord Jesus Christ. He saves such persons and reconciles them to God. Being truly born again through repentance and faith is the only way to attain heavenly citizenship and reach that worthwhile destination.

"And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

John 8:32

A Christian finds his guide in the Word of God, and commits the keeping of his soul into the hands of God. He looks for no assurance beyond what the Word can give him, and if his mind is troubled by the cares and fears which assail him, he can go nowhere but in prayer to the throne of grace and to Scripture.
