GFC and Greek Orthodox

Hi guys, this is quite a relevant topic to discuss here. I wasn't brought up in a Greek Orthodox family, so I've just never stopped to think about what GFC believes v what Greek Orthodox believes. This was kinda brought up in the Christian Discussion forum, but this forum is the best place to discuss.

This is a very big topic, but some of the things I'd like to discuss are the...

1) Similarities and differences in doctrine
2) Similarities and differences in tradition
3) Similarities and differences in ceremonial things
4) Similarities and differences in structure of the eldership
5) Similarities and differences in the role of the 'layman' or 'congregation'
6) Similarities and differences in how we interpret the Bible
7) and I suppose similarities and differences in anything else...

Fire away.

Bible translation

Normally when you look at translations between the Greek and English Bible(s), you think why did they use that English word, this other word is better. The meaning isn't fully there.

I came across something where I am not sure if the meaning is the same.

I read it in the Greek bible the oldies mostly read and the English (NKJV) was different.

Here is the verse in Greek and English.

Psalm 34:10
The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

In Greek.
Οί πλούσιοι πτχωχεύουσι καί πεινωσιν αλλ οι εκζητούντες τον Κύριον δεν στερουνται ουδενός αγαθού.

It is the first part I don't understand.

The young lions are not the "rich" as it says in Greek.

What did the translators mean?

Do you feel there is no hope?

I found this online earlier today.

Do You Feel There is No Hope
by: Author Unknown, Source Unknown

In your times of deep despair,
Do you feel there is no hope?
As the darkness closes in on you,
Do you feel you cannot cope?

As you struggle on through every trial,
Do you say "When will it end"?
As you cry yourself to sleep at night,
Do you wish you had a friend?

When your body's racked with aches and pains,
Do you feel you are alone?
When you think about the future,
Do you fear the great unknown?

There is someone who really cares,
And He hears your every cry.
His arms are reaching out to you,
And on Him you can rely.

When things close in around you,
He sees your fear and doubt -
He wants to hold you in His arms,
And He will never cast you out.

As you stumble through the darkness,
He will be your guiding light.
He wants to wipe away your tears,
For you are precious in His sight.

Reach out right now to Jesus,
And let Him take complete control -
He'll take that heavy burden,
And He'll touch and make you whole.

He's reaching out His arms to you,
And He wants to be your friend.
Let Him take you in His loving arms,
For His love will never end.

GFC Welcome Thread!

Firstly, welcome to the GFC forum! We hope you enjoy your stay! Before you begin posting you must read the following terms and conditions.

The forum administrator is admin.

The forum moderators are:
- Phillip
- JT
- Steve
- GCK

There are a few forum rules. So why do we have these rules?
"...law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane..." (1 Tim. 1:9).

Furthermore, these forum rules have been established to help maintain a civil and friendly environment amongst the forum members, allowing everyone to enjoy the discussions which can be found on here.

These rules serve to ensure the integrity of the church is upheld through an appropriate church forum. Most of these rules have been adopted from other similar forums. They are in no particular order, so please read from start to finish.

1.
i) You must register in order to reply and "post" in "threads".
(If you are not familiar with Forum jargon, a post is simply a message that someone has typed up and submitted in a "thread" for others to read and respond to. A thread is simply a collection of messages - the order flows from top to bottom, where the top message was the first message posted in this topic. Messages can be indented to show that they are in reply to a previous message. "Posters" are simply you and me - the people who are registered to post. )

2. All new members validate themselves using a valid email address. An email will be sent to your email address where you will click on a link which validates your membership to this forum. You may only register one User ID. Multiple IDs are not allowed.

3. No posting of vulgar or obscene material, or other material inappropriate for a church website.

4. No derogatory comments against other posters, including any form of personal attacks or harassment.

5. Always treat fellow posters with respect and courtesy. Always. Please stay humble at all times and respect everyone's opinion.

6. The Greek Free Church Forum is an Evangelical website. As such, no language, avatar pictures or external website links inappropriate for this website should be posted. Contact a moderator or administrator beforehand if you are not sure. Any offensive language, pictures, links will be deleted and you may be warned or banned at the moderators discretion.

7. No irritating posting styles, including use of all caps and excessive punctuation. Posts will be edited and deleted as necessary.

8. Open debate is definitely encouraged, however, no posting of material intended to start a war. You may talk about controversial topics, but please keep the conversations civil. Any posts/threads which aren't "civil" will be deleted. Please stay humble at all times.

9. Moderators and administrators monitor your compliance with these rules and dispense disciplinary action at their discretion. Anyone found to be posting inappropriate content may be banned or suspended. However, we are fair minded people, and we will deal with you in a fair way.

10. If you believe someone has posted inappropriate content, please report the post or send a Personal Message to any moderator.

11. Finally, feel free to introduce yourself in any thread.

This post will be updated regularly so please check back.

We hope you enjoy your stay. May God Bless you.
